A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead

A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead is a single-player horror adventure game inspired by the critically acclaimed blockbuster movie franchise and now you’ll get involved as you play as Alex Taylor, an asthmatic college student struggling to survive alongside her boyfriend Martin.

A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead is an instant-fail stealth-driven horror game set in the critically acclaimed blockbuster movie franchise. Although the game doesn’t bring any new ideas to the concept of the franchise, it does extremely well at setting an unnerving atmosphere and makes an extremely fun game to stream. However this game won’t be for everyone…

The Road Ahead takes place four months after the sound-driven alien monster land on Earth. You’ll play as Alex Taylor, an asthmatic college student who is a member of a small group trying to survive in this new world struggling to survive, alongside her boyfriend Martin. As resources run low, you’ll have to venture outside to scavenge food and materials while avoiding the alien monsters.

What’s fairly unique about A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead is that it features an optional “Microphone Noise Detection” setting where creatures will react to sounds that YOU make through your microphone or headset so you’ll need to move as quietly as possible. There’s plenty of warnings to remind you not not to scream in the various safe rooms scattered throughout the game. Stay silent to survive!

Pros

Noise-focused stealth game

Amazing atmosphere

excellent sound design

Horrific monsters

Handy autosave

Great acting

Cons

Extremely slow-paced

Limited character progression

Setup Story falls short

Not much gameplay outside of the stealth

Can get repetitive after so many deaths

Full experience with microphone enabled

I really enjoyed this game; the stunning graphics and in-game audio made it incredibly fun to play. Yes, I may have died around 20 times or even more, but I absolutely loved it.

The environments are designed to test your coordination and fine motor skills with cluttered rooms, cramped rooms, and noise-generating risks. Alex has a homemade phonometer that indicates the decibel level being produced by her movements. If the in-game noise isn’t enough, you can also toggle on microphone support so that any noise you make could attract the aliens. Players can also use noise-making tools to send aliens in the wrong direction or temporarily distract them.

Alex is also an asthmatic. When triggered, it causes her to hyperventilate, which produces a lot of noise. Using an inhaler can help, but it is single-use, and they need to be collected through the game. This makes me think that Simon (Blue) would be absolutely rubbish in this monster apocalypse…

Typically I don’t like stealth based games but playing this with microphone enabled while on stream was amazing. I love the bone-chilling, nail-biting stress stakes. Even a single breath uttered from you can be heard by the creature, making it so much more immersive than other games. To appreciate this game you must be a fan of eerier stealth-based horrors. Attacks unfortunately can be a little frustrating at times, as more often than I’d like I was creeping around and hiding and an alien would brush past me and suddenly attack…sending me back quite a way to repeat a part of the map I’d just spent ages creeping through but I guess thats what the developers were after.

The live streamers out there will enjoy this the most with text to speech sound alerts TURNED UP LOL.
