Unrailed 2: Back on Track

Indoor Astronaut

The chaotic co-op railroad construction game is back! Team up with your friends to build a railroad through procedurally generated worlds with new biomes and bosses. Permanently upgrade your character and engine, even create your own levels – just don‘t let your train derail!

Unrailed 2 brings back the co-op multiplayer madness with some worthwhile updates that enhance the chaotic gameplay experience. It’s currently only in Early Access, and more features will be added, but it’s already in a great place. This games works incredibly well with friends where you’ll work together to gather resources and construct the rail line in a race against the advancing train!

The main goal of Unrailed 2 is to build a train track across procedurally generated worlds. It’s simple but results in frantic cooperation and coordination to build more track. This means clearing a path through the terrain, chopping down trees, gathering materials, and upgrading the train to keep it on track. There are also inhabitants to watch out for, with some not being very friendly.

There’s a lot to unlock here, with accessories for adorable playable characters and permanent unlocks that buff abilities. Each run will present unique challenges and obstacles according to the biome. It has rogue-lite elements, but if you die, you’ll just respawn back at full health and ready to work…. thank god because I died LOTS haha.

Pros

Single player, co-op and PvP

Rogue-lite elements

Adorable graphics

Great soundtrack

Lots to unlock

High replay value

Cons

Early Access

Surprisingly difficult

Online matchmaking can be slow

Few glitches

While PvE is the main focus of the game, there is also a PvP option. The versus mode is where this game really shines. It stops becoming a friendly cozy co-op to a super competitive game. Versus mode pits two teams against each other, with the aim of building the track as far as possible.

Co-op is the star of Unrailed 2, but don’t worry if you prefer a slower solo experience because single-player mode can be played alone or with a bot companion.

I had an absolute blast with Unrailed 2. Its got the features from the first Unrailed game that I loved and simply more has been added on top with a general better balance of gameplay too. After each map you can make awesome decisions of randomizing your items and pathways and it makes the game feel fresh each time paired with the different super fun biomes. The boss fights I did experience, also are amazing and a great twist to the proven concept. Its also worth noting that developers at Indoor Astronaut have publicly taken feedback from their Unrailed 1 community to tailor this game to their fan base and that’s just amazing to see in the Steam Reviews!
