Sniper Elite: Resistance
Rebellion
Offering unparalleled sniping mechanics, stealth and tactical third-person combat, Sniper Elite: Resistance turns the attention of the award-winning series towards a hidden war, far from the front lines, deep within the heart of occupied France.
Sniper Elite: Resistance is the newest game from developer Rebillion and the next chapter of the incredible third-person shooter series. This new title is everything we expect from Sniper Elite with emphasis on stealth and tactical combat with awesome multiplayer modes!
Resistance offers everything we’d expect from the series. However, it doesn’t bring anything new.
Still set in World War 2, Sniper Elite: Resistance runs alongside Sniper Elite 5 while still being a separate storyline. It focuses on Captain Harry Hawker, an allied sniper and commando seen in some of the previous titles including Sniper Elite 4: Italy and Sniper Elite 5. This is the first time he’s had any real story significance and it’s great to see more of him.
Cpt. Hawker is tasked to take out a new dangerous Luftwaffe Wonder Weapon. The weapon is powerful enough that it could allow the Nazis to win the war and guarantee them control of France. Your mission is to rage a hidden war, far from the front lines seen in Sniper Elite 5 and deep inside occupied France where the Allies and French Resistance are working to free the country from Nazi control.

Like the other games in the series, Sniper Elite: Resistance can be played in third person or first person. Each mission has a main objective and several optional objectives to complete along the way along with other helpful secrets. Like the other games, Harry Hawker is quite squishy and will die quite quickly if he’s not careful. Stealth plays an important role in this game and the developers have ensured that players focus on remaining undetected as much as possible.
The skill tree is identical to the one in Sniper Elite 5 (SE5) and offers nothing new which is disappointing considering how limiting they both are. Sadly, the game also uses a lot of the same traps, enemy types and map assets from SE5. It can be tricky at times to differentiate this new game from SE5 which was released in 2022.
While sniping is the best part of the gunplay here, the other guns feel a little slow and unwieldy making them a little unsatisfying. Traversing the landscape is also a little inconsistent with unexplainable issues hurdling over objects or fences and aiming around corners. In a game like Resistance, these can feel like pretty big issues in the moment it happens.
While the single player campaign is the star of the show, Resistance also has multiplayer to offer. Players can team up with co-op to take on missions while there’s also an Invasion mode where players can jump into another person’s live campaign as an adversary to hunt them down. Being hunted by a real player while attempting to complete a mission adds a whole new level when every noise alerts enemies to your position. Thankfully, it’s an optional feature that can be turned off or left open to only friends. There are also team-based PvP and wave-based PvE modes. One of the best PvP modes is “No Cross” where the map is split down the middle and forces a strategic sniper-versus-sniper game where camping will get you killed. The multiplayer side has a lot to offer and is really appreciated.
Theres a lot of hate for Sniper Elite: Resistance in the community and its been labelled as Sniper Elite 5 DLC but despite the issues, personally I think a fun game and turning on multiplayer mode adds make it more cut-throat. I’ve only played the previous games at gaming events and showcases so I haven’t been exposed to the wider franchise. It’s just more of the same great game but with a new name and depending on your gaming hours with Sniper Elite 5, you’ll love or hate that.
