HyperCore : Rhythm Bullet Hell

Gameinaframe

HyperCore is a fast-paced anti-rhythm action game where every beat becomes a threat. Survive escalating challenges, chase leaderboard glory, and master multiple game modes. Every level can be played in multiple ways, rewarding precision, risk-taking and mastery. Learn enemy patterns and push yourself toward perfect runs. Every beat is a threat. Skill is survival. Perfection is earned.

HyperCore is a rhythm bullet hell game that blends classic bullet hell shoot ’em up with procedurally generated content and music. It’s a simple game that’s easy to learn, where the goal is to avoid the dangers and make it to the end of the track. However, while the concept is simple, this is a tricky game that rewards precision, risk-taking and mastery. The demo isn’t too long, but it’s a fun experience. Created by Gameinaframe, HyperCore: Rhythm Bullet Hell is due to release later this year and is sure to make some waves.

HyperCore does have a story mode with a story attached. The story is told through two characters who talk via a cyberpunk visual-novel-style screen between levels. It’s clear there’s a deeper and more extended story to come, which is nice. However, the ability to fast forward through the story sections is also nice to see. Having the option to essentially skip the talking segments and move on to the next action-packed level instead. The story also includes levels against giant robots, though the demo only has one of these at the end of it.

From what we see in the demo, there’s obviously a much longer story in the final release version, and it certainly looks quite interesting so far. However, the ability to skip over the story and just play the single player levels is also very appreciated. It’s a great touch for replayability

HyperCore’s gameplay is the star of the show. While the game does recommend using a gamepad for the best experience, it’s very playable with a keyboard. Press movement buttons to avoid the particles, build a score multiplier and use dodges to slip through particles as needed. The concept is very simple: HyperCore is a bullet hell game. And it brings the hell. The music dictates the procedurally generated bullets, and while it’s easy to fall into the rhythm quickly, the rhythm can change just as quickly.

The demo focuses on teaching players the basics of the game. Avoiding hits, building the multiplier, using dodges strategically, taking risks and understanding that seeing “Danger!” on the bottom of the screen actually means “get the hell out of the way!” It’s very replayable; however, it does force players through the original tutorial each time.

The full version of the game will include a local versus mode where players can challenge friends in local split-screen gameplay and Steam-enabled Remote Play Together. There’s no word yet on an online multiplayer option. HyperCore will also allow players to add their own music to the game to create new challenges with custom song support. In addition to this, the game will also have a Time Attack mode, where getting hit means instant death with an unforgiving game mode.
