Lightyear Frontier

Amplifier Studios

Lightyear Frontier is a peaceful open-world farming adventure on a planet at the far edge of the galaxy. Climb into your versatile mech and start your new home on a distant planet with up to 3 friends as you farm alien crops, build your own homestead, and explore the untamed wilderness of the world.

Lightyear Frontier joined Steam Early Access in March 2024, and the developers have been hard at work improving it with new content and fixes each month. Lightyear Frontier is an awesome open world, multiplayer, farming adventure game set in a distant world where you placed in charge of a interstellar homestead. Together with mech, solo or with up to 3 friends your role is to explore a mysterious world and blend in with the natural eco-system.

Lightyear Frontier’s brand new update Trailblazer update is the largest so far, with a range of community-requested features, including faster movement, the ability to teleport home, and new animal interactions. It’s brought a new life to the world, and it’s great to see a developer working with their community to improve the game so consistent.

There is a narrative story that unfolds while playing exploring the world around you however its important to keep in mind that Lightyear Frontier is in early access and the story is unfinished. However the story isn’t why this game is so enjoyable.

Pros

Story is open-ended

Low-stress game

Fun gameplay elements

Multiplayer

Lots of decorations

Plenty to explore and collect

Cons

Early Access

Story isn’t complete

Can become a little repetitive

Few multiplayer bugs

Lightyear Frontier is designed as a low-stress, combat-free game without worrying about thirst, hunger or other survival elements. Your biggest enemy will be your mech stepping off a ledge and comically rolling down the hill. You’ll be busy focused on farming, building and exploring the world to improve the farm and the planet. Weeds and sludge will also occasionally try to attach to your farm, which must be fought off with your tools else they eat your crops. There are seeds to collect, plants to grow and harvest before selling, resources to collect, animals to gather, pollution to clear up and a mech to upgrade. While the game is pretty simple, there’s actually a lot to do here!

If you’re looking for hardcore mech fighting, or some kind of helldivers experience of conquering an alien world, you wont get it here. Lightyear Frontier is made for those players who want a wholesome AMSR journey, walking around in a mech suit, harvesting supplies and using them to build up a fun base and barn with cosmetic furniture’s. The best featured we enjoyed is customising your mech with tools and cosmetics to highly personalise it and make the mech you’re own.

We played during its spotlight launch on XBOX / PC Game Pass and it quickly became one the largest played co-op games. The price tag is a little high but I highly recommend wish listing it on your preferred platform and grabbing it on a deal or heading over to Kinguin for a quick snatch up!

Or head over to our Twitter where we’re teaming up with the developers to host game giveaways!
