Date Everything!
Team17
Date Everything! is a sandbox dating simulator set in the comfort of your own home featuring 100 Dateable characters, over 70,000 voice lines, branching narratives, over 13,000 hand-drawn images and a fully explorable 3D house. The best bit is Date Everything! has multiple endings for each character so are you ready to Date Everything?!
Date Everything! lets you do exactly what the title suggests: date everything and it’s a hilarious concept where everyday household objects turn into people that you can date. Now I know what you’re thinking but this might already be the dating game of the year…
It’s the debut romance game from Sassy Chap Games with 100 dateable characters to meet, all of whom are full-voiced and unique. This is a very ambitious game and while there’s a lot to love here, it has caused a few problems. Date Everything! has a straightforward plot to explain how you get to date all these usually, inanimate objects found around your house. After losing your job to AI, a mysterious stranger sends you magical glasses called “Dateviators” which make your house come to life! And now you get to date everything in your house!
There are 100 dateable characters in the game and, each one has their own story. Depending on your choices when chatting with them all they might become friends, lovers and even enemies. The game does have a branching narrative and considering the huge cast of characters, there’s a lot to discover giving the game a huge replay value. However, this also means there’s a little problem with a consistent storyline quality. Some stories just aren’t as interesting and some of the interactions can feel a little dull at times because of it. Hilariously, each character has their own theme song.
Considering the massive scale of the game, it’s understandable that there are some minor story issues but it doesn’t remove the fun to have here!
Pros
100 brilliantly unique characters
Completely fully voiced
Exciting storylines and drama
Amazing character
Cons
Storyline quality varies
Might become a little repetitive
Some interactions missing
Lacking some quality-of-life features
There’s quite a bit of freedom here when it comes to how you want to approach the game. Date Everything! lets you explore the house in three dimensions and speak with whoever (or whatever) catches your eye. It uses the SPEC stat system which is similar to Persona 5 once you’ve reached a relationship milestone with them, unlocking these lets you choose new dialogue branches as the game unfolds. Building a stronger relationship with each character will also give you the option to help characters solve their problems and get closure with their ending sequences.
While friendship, lovers and enemies are all on the cards for every character in the game, enemies are technically a Lose condition. If you become enemies with someone then you won’t be able to resolve their ending though a limited candy resource you can use later on might let you turn enemies back into friends. It’s just tricky to do this since the resource is very limited. Unfortunately, it’s easy to accidentally become enemies with different characters since the path of Hate doesn’t always have much warning and in some cases, character storylines collide.
Overall the humour in Date Everything! is really great and the attention to the voice made me laugh so many times. When my fridge started to get me to eat take-out leftovers and one of the places we apparently like to order from is called I Like Big Bundts. Me and the fridge are out to a great start on the path to love. There’s also a New Game+ mode after you’ve beaten the game. It lets you go through all the dialogue options again but with new stats which means new dialogue options are unlocked. I have to highly recommend this one for its funny moments, great artwork and the incredible voice work.
