Cloudheim

Noodle Cat Games

Ragnarok shattered the world, and the gods have chosen you to shape the next one. Cloudheim is a 1-4 player action adventure that blends crafting with chaotic physics-based combat. Battle and upgrade your shop to bring harmony to a broken realm. Rally your friends for combo-driven combat in the destructible world of Cloudheim, where the ancient beings lie dormant and corruption spreads!

Releasing into Steam Early Access, Cloudheim is already extremely promising. New developer Noodle Cat Games is clearly dedicated to working with the player community to fix issues and improve the game and has already fixed a large amount of bugs from the demo playtest.

Cloudheim is a story-focused, physics-based combat system and action fantasy adventure that can be played solo or with up to 4 players in online co-op. Set in a world shattered by Ragnarok, where the gods have also been irreparably damaged. The player is a Runari, a race known for their protection from damage and general hardiness. Despite the events of Ragnarok, some of the Runari survived and were awakened once again by Odin Shell, a flying turtle whose shell is your home base to return to after embarking on adventures. The core game loop is where Cloudheim stands out – battle through dungeons, collecting loot to use or sell to customers in your shop on the back giant Odin turtle shell you’ll craft, garden, fish, cook, hire staff and more. There’s a lot to do here!

Being an Early Access game, Cloudheim has a story, but it’s not fully implemented yet. Currently, the story ends at the second island, and it’s clear there’s a lot more to uncover. This is a story-focused game, but the story so far is not a Nordic epic that invokes feelings of immense power or destiny. It still has quite a bit to offer, but at this point in development, the story doesn’t feel especially interesting and for the me the game loop is the most exciting.

Cons

Limited voice acting and cutscenes

Story is not complete yet

small camera bugs

More cosmetic loot needed

Co-op is where Cloudheim really shines. It currently supports up to four players; anything at the base can be used by other players, and shared save progression exists. It’s also possible for players to set up shops so they can trade and sell with other players to create a local economy. Currently, there’s an experimental eight-player co-op option too, so there are plans to expand this.

As expected, Cloudheim allows you to create your own character with a range of base characters to choose from, including otters and birdmen. Some of them are locked, requiring you to level up particular classes to be able to access them, and it’s possible to change class at any time by equipping new weapons that follow four distinct paths. It’s great to be able to swap playstyles so easily, and each feels very different.

The core of the game is exploring different areas, completing quests, fighting enemies and collecting loot to sell at the shop. It’s exactly what we expect from an RPG, and despite being a Steam EA game, the gameplay feels smooth and is quite enjoyable. Combat feels satisfying, and the shop management mechanics are a nice addition, though it focuses more on inventory management at the moment and can start to feel a little tedious.

Building up the homestead with upgrades and special unlocks is simple, but the large open space feels a little underutilised at times. The building controls are a little tricky with things not moving as expected, though there are workarounds in place. The system has great foundations and should be improved over time.

At the moment there a few minor bugs but for me, the voice acting is a little limited, with most of it confined to the tutorial, and cutscenes become rare as the game progresses. Currently, the NPCs mostly exist to encourage you towards the next quest or world to explore and don’t offer much interaction or personality. I’d love to see this side of the game grow more. Either way Cloudheim has so much potential and is definitely my favourite co-op fantasy game for 2025. I loved the demo that was released in early 2025 so its been great to see this game grow. Cloudheim is currently available on Steam PC but they do plan on releasing for PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X/S at a later date too!
